Rumen Minevchev
Born in Sofia, Bulgaria on 21.01.1973. 8-aged demonstrates his musical interests when listening to musicians’ performances live and recorded. At 10 he is searching his first accords on the presented guitar with the idea to form his own band. Later, he makes friends with future Sofia musicians, and aged 12 studies his first rock beats and grooves. Аt 15 under the influence of bands like : Rush, Helloween, Metallica and others, he writes his first compositions as a guitarist/bassist for his rock band Cardinal, meanwhile making his first attempts of writing more complicated pieces, trying to follow his favourite groups. This is the time when he is more and more interested in drums as a basic instrument in long composition, typical for a style like progressive rock.
In the late 80-s after having learned nearly by heart the parts of the drummer, Mickie Dee/King Diamond, he starts studying drums. At the time he is looking for a good teacher, who unfortunately fails to find. So he takes part in then arising rock-metal life in Sofia and records some songs in Sofia studios, that have later been aired by local radio stations.
In 1994/1995 moves to Vienna, where he continues thorough drum education with his new Mapex drum set. He makes acquaintance with musicians from all over the world and with local band, some of them he joins and plays within Austrian clubs. In Vienna he definitely makes his mind to devote himself only to drums, so he turns to their initial complete studying, single, doubles, paradiddles…, concentrates on body balance and coordination to the instrument, the technique and the position of drums itself. |

In 1997 makes friends with Sasho and Kosio Vladigerovs and they form Double from all band, and together with Peter Popov the band makes their first jazz funk gigs. This is the time when he records his working album, when he plays all instruments, turning to different styles.
With the experience and material gained moves to Rome Italy, and enrols in Universita Della Musica Roma, drum school, that Horacio el Negro Hernandez has studied and graduated. He participates in all seminars and drum clinics of Dannis Chamber, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Wekle, Tommy Campball, David Gotlieb, Peter Erskin….and many others. In Rome he chances on a concert of the Italian band The Ghoost and is impressed by their drummer Gianluca Garsia. He gets his phone number and after 6-7 hour conversation with him , he finds out that Gianluca Garsia is a graduated of Hollywood College of Music. Now he is shure that he has found the Man he has always looked for. Their friendship and close contact make him a member of Drum Percussion Center, owned by Garsia himself. At the same time he is studying in UM Roma as a specialized Jazz student and participates in Drum spots of Televisia Italiana RAI. Making his choice on the American education mode ‘’no time wasting’’, he realizes that a strictly defined program concentrating on specific drummer faults saves him groping around, lack of motivation and interruptions in his development. Using learning materials of Gianluca Garsia and literature by Jim Chaplin, he prepares his Master thesis.
Plays with the Italian band Leaving Dream Group in lots of Rome clubs and records a single. In 2003 he makes an album for the Italian singer Alesandro Laurenti. He further develops as a drummer and on February 1st, 2007 takes the decision to open the first DRUM CENTER SOFIA in Bulgaria. |
